Chatteris Village Event Friday 24th November
Three of our members, Sue Robinson, Sarah Snow and Audrey Woodrow made the long journey to Cambridgeshire to attend the RBL Youth event in Chatteris village to which we had been invited, along with our WW1 dressing station. We stayed in the lovely village of March for 2 nights and it was extremely cold.
On the Saturday we went to Chatteris working mens club where the event was set up. They welcomed us with cups of tea and friendliness. We had a wonderful day with some wonderful young people, some of them dressed in our spare uniforms.
The village was commemorating George Clare VC, he was a resident who is fondly remembered.
Around 200 people came to see us and the rest of the WW1 exhibits also to sample the Trench cake that was on offer.
It was worth such a long trip to help commemorate a brave soldier who went that extra mile to help others and to sacrifice his life. Thank you people of Chatteris for making us so welcome. A special mention for Becky the wonderwoman. Many thanks.
